I Want an Old Drug
4,000 years ago, when the Indians and Iranians were still one people, they enjoyed a tasty beverage called Soma. It was made from the juice of a plant and mixed with milk, honey and other things. It was a ritual drink, made only by priests and said to bestow divine qualities on those who imbibed.
There is confusion these days as to what plant the juice came from. Some say it was a psychedelic mushroom, rhubard, or ginseng, but there is some good proof that it could be a mixture of Ephedra and regular old marijuana. Nobody knows for sure.
That's too bad. I'd like to try some. My guess is it's made from cattails and is something like an original version of old fashion absinthe. Which is actually new fashion now days, in this not-so brave new world.

if they were anything like the natives here, it may have been a weak drug... chicha beer, made from corn and used here in ceremonies to induce, is weaker than most drinks sold in your liquor store, but the religious commitment and experience was enough with it that watching, you'd think they were all hopped-up on something chemically more powerful (beerwise). Of course, there were other cultures here with more powerful substances, but I'm just saying.
They just openied a store here called Soma and it sells bedtime gear like cozy pajamas and eye masks. I'll have to check it out now!
When I hurt my back a long time ago, I got Somo for it. They have since taken it off the market because of its addicting qualities.
You Floridians are a wild bunch I guess. Or is it you crazy Nicaraguans? Can you buy chicha beer or do you have to make it yourself? Perhaps it's the idea that gets them all hopped-up.
Thanks for the story.
That sounds like the perfect name for a pj store!
So Denise, how were the withdrawals?
You can still buy that shit on drugstore.com.
